Orbit Pay
Merchant onboarding redesigned with explicit KYC states, progress cues, and calmer recovery paths.
Flow improvements
- Separated business setup, identity verification, and account activation into understandable stages.
- Made document requirements and review status visible before merchants reached a blocked state.
- Designed resumable recovery paths for rejected, expired, and incomplete submissions.
Case study
Challenge. Merchants entered one long onboarding form without knowing which documents were required or when their account could begin taking payments. When verification failed, generic messages sent people back to support.
Approach. I mapped policy requirements against the merchant journey, separated tasks by owner, and prototyped progressive disclosure for complex business types. Moderated tests focused on document preparation, interruptions, and recovering from rejected evidence.
Outcome. The redesigned checklist made requirements, ownership, progress, and review states visible at every step. Reusable upload, status, and remediation patterns gave compliance and product teams a shared language for future markets.
Before & after
The long, opaque onboarding form became a staged checklist that shows requirements, ownership, verification progress, and a clear recovery path for every blocked state.
